‘The City is not involved with the restitution process, but we are responsible for creating an overall spatial vision for District Six and will do so in collaboration with the District Six community, and other residents. The purpose of this spatial plan is to re-establish this once vibrant neighbourhood, to create a sense of belonging, and to establish a multicultural community,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Spatial Planning and Environment, Alderman Marian Nieuwoudt.
The Local Spatial Development Framework will be refined during an extensive engagement process over the coming months.
The details of the introductory meeting are as follows:

‘This is a historic occasion and I am encouraging Capetonians to please participate. I want to assure all that we are committed to working together with residents, the Western Cape Government, and the National Government who is taking the lead for the redevelopment of District Six. Once completed, we want to see a neighbourhood at the foot of Table Mountain that is vibrant and beautiful, inclusive, and sustained by a strong local economy,’ said Alderman Nieuwoudt.
The City has sent invites to numerous known stakeholders within District Six. We request interested parties to RSVP as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. The online meeting can only accommodate a limited number of guests; however, a recording of the meeting, as well as the presentations, will be available on the City’s website afterwards.
