Rhodes Memorial water point along Union Avenue route repaired by City Parks department

27 January 2016

The area surrounding Union Avenue and leading up to Rhodes Memorial in Rondebosch serves as a popular running and cycling route for many local residents. The large number of walkers and athletes along the Union Avenue route improves safety for all residents, who make use of a water point located near the old zoo parking area as a refreshment stop.

However, recent vandalism of the tap has deprived the runners and cyclists of this amenity. This has proved to be a huge inconvenience, especially on days when the temperature soars, and the City Parks department has responded to resident requests to have the problem attended to after Cllr Ian Iversen (Ward 59) relayed the residents’ complaints. A more secure stand pipe has been installed and the tap (pictured inset) is now back in operation.

Residents are asked to report any incidents of vandalism by calling the City’s Call Centre on 0860 103 089.
