New Chairperson for City’s Corporate Services Portfolio Committee announced

16 December 2021

Councillor Ah Sing will play an important role in holding the Corporate Services directorate and myself as the appointed Mayoral Committee Member accountable when we appear before him to report back on the work the various departments are delivering on each month

‘I would like to congratulate the new Portfolio Committee chairperson for the Corporate Services Directorate, Councillor Fabian Ah Sing on his appointment. Councillor Ah Sing will play an important role in holding the Corporate Services directorate and myself as the appointed Mayoral Committee Member accountable when we appear before him to report back on the work the various departments are delivering on each month. I welcome and expect robust engagement at these vital meetings,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Corporate Services, Alderman Theresa Uys.

The PC chairperson is tasked to manage and facilitate these monthly engagements in a manner that allows for informative and collaborative meetings.

‘This way the PC will fulfil its core function which is to ultimately assist with the performance of the Corporate Services Directorate. I believe his contributions during these meetings will ensure that service delivery meets and exceeds expectations, and that thorough strategic planning happens to the benefit of all our residents and communities,’ said Alderman Uys.

The Directorate for Corporate Services can be described as the City of Cape Town’s nerve centre as it enables the City to be responsive and adaptable; provides support to other directorates to deliver on their mandates through the development of policies and data analysis, and serves as the hub for innovation, and information and knowledge management.

The City has the responsibility to ensure adequate service delivery, that residents enjoy a more caring and safe city that is inclusive and prosperous, where all have access to opportunities. These are the objectives against which the Corporate Services PC chairperson and members are required to measure the Directorate’s work.

The City of Cape Town Portfolio Committees are formed from among the Council members to assist the municipality in the performance of its duties and achieve the effective and efficient performance of all of its functions.

The new established Portfolio Committees will commence with monthly meetings in February 2022. Council will, therefore, announce the list of elected committee members in January 2022.

The appointment of Portfolio Committees and chairpersons by the City of Cape Town Council is in accordance with the Constitution and the Municipal Structures Act.
