The Metro Police Department participated in this initiative to heighten awareness around Down Syndrome and to create a better understanding that persons with disabilities have the right to be treated equally and fairly and should have the same opportunities as everyone else.

Two  learners, both aged 14 and one aged 17 were given a tour through the Eagle Eye (CCTV) section, where they were given the opportunity to monitor and operate the CCTV cameras.

The learners also had the opportunity to drive in one of the vehicles with the blue lights and sirens activated to simulate a law enforcement patrol experience.

A teacher from Filia school also attended to ensure that should one of the learners require special attention, she would be able to assist and provide guidance. The department handed over gift bags to the group.

'The Metro Police Department is grateful and honoured to have hosted the learners. They thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Moving on from this visit, we will now work with the Western Cape Education Department and its schools for learners with special needs to provide similar opportunities,' said Metro Police Chief, Wayne Le Roux.
