Mandela Boulevard partly closed for in-bound traffic on Sunday

1 July 2016

Transport for Cape Town (TCT), the City of Cape Town’s transport authority, will put up a new gantry sign close to the Strand Street turnoff on Nelson Mandela Boulevard on Sunday 3 July 2016.

This sign, which indicates the routes to the V&A Waterfront, Cape Town International Convention Centre, and the Cape Town Stadium, is replacing the directional signboard that was damaged during a storm some weeks ago.

As such, two of the three inbound lanes along a section of Nelson Mandela Boulevard will be closed to traffic from 08:00 until 16:00, weather permitting and pending any unforeseen challenges. One lane will be left open for traffic at all times, but road users should expect significant delays and try to avoid this route as far as possible.

Motorists planning to travel along Nelson Mandela Boulevard towards the CBD should please note the following:

  • The middle and left lanes along Nelson Mandela Boulevard will be closed to traffic for a section of about 200 m, starting approximately 150 m before the Strand Street turnoff from 08:00 until 12:00
  • the middle and right lanes along Nelson Mandela Boulevard will be closed to traffic for a section of about 200 m, starting approximately 150 m before the Strand Street turnoff from 12:00 until 16:00

Residents and visitors approaching the city along the N2 freeway should expect significant delays and are advised to rather use De Waal Drive as an alternative route to the CBD.

Road users are advised to contact the Transport Information Centre for more information on 0800 65 64 63 or to follow @Transport4CT on Twitter.
