28 October 2023

Sixty female gamers are competing for the chance to represent Africa in the GirlGamer World Circuit Finals in Spain.

The tournament, which started yesterday Friday 27 October 2023, is a qualifying event where some of Africa's best female players compete for a spot in the GirlGamer World Finals.

This leg of the competition sees 60 of the best female gamers from South Africa, Namibia, Zambia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Lesotho, Mauritius and Reunion Islands competing against each other for the chance to represent Africa in the GirlGamer World Circuit Finals taking place in Spain.

'Cape Town has become a critical player in the African gaming industry, with more than half of the country's game development studios based here in the Mother City. The GirlGamer eSports Festival is an ideal platform for highlighting the achievements of female players, helping break down barriers and encouraging more women to get involved in this exciting and rapidly growing industry. We are thrilled to be a part of this event to see local gamers gaining more exposure within the e-sports scene and be provided with opportunities to display their skills on an international level,' said the City's Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security Alderman JP Smith.

GirlGamer is a global esports community that promotes female gamers and provides a platform for them to connect and compete in various tournaments.

The platform has already garnered a significant following, with female gamers from different parts of the world coming together to celebrate and highlight the presence of women in gaming spaces.

It has been an exhilarating spectacle, featuring some fierce competition as teams have been contending in rounds of League of Legends and Counter Strike Global Offensive.

League of Legends, a team-based strategy game where two teams of five powerful champions face off to destroy the other's base. The game demands gamers to master teamwork, have lightning-fast reflexes, and razor-sharp decision-making skills.

While Counter Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) is a fast-paced, high-action and strategy-heavy multiplayer first-person shooter game pressing players to exhibit tactical skills and precision shooting.

Congratulations to all the teams making it through to the qualifiers and those moving forward to represent Africa at the GirlGamer World Circuit finals.

GirlGamer Africa qualifiers run until tomorrow Sunday 29 October 2023 at ATK Arena in Claremont.

To experience some epic and intense gameplay, tickets for spectators are still available from Quicket.

The event is also being live broadcast on https://www.twitch.tv/girlgamer
