Edna Court in Parkwood Estate being upgraded to improve access for residents

18 May 2016

A construction project to replace cracked concrete paving around Edna Court in Parkwood Estate in Ward 66 was launched on Wednesday, 4 May 2016. This is a much-needed improvement as residents currently contend with poor road access due to potholes which pose a risk to their vehicles and also make access difficult for disabled residents.

The resurfacing project was made possible thanks to a grant from the housing maintenance project budget in the amount of R169 375. Tar Paving Projects has been appointed as the contractor and is required to employ local labour to complete the construction work. This will provide much-needed income to the community and forms part of the City’s Expanded Public Works Programme which provides short-term employment opportunities and skills training to unemployed residents.

Construction is anticipated to be completed by Wednesday, 18 May 2016.

“Residents have given their approval to the project and are looking forward to a much improved access route for pedestrian and vehicular traffic,” said Cllr William Akim of Subcouncil 18.
