‘This is excellent work by our LEAP officers, but also the members of the public who are recognising the value in working with staff to curtail illegal activities and serious crime in their areas,’ said Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith.
METRO POLICE DEPARTMENT
Officers arrested 23 suspects for possession of drugs, drunk driving, domestic violence and resisting arrest, among others.

On Wednesday, 30 December 2020, CCTV camera operators noticed a grey Audi speeding down Main Road in Sea Point.
The vehicle proceeded to crash into street signage in the vicinity of Glengariff Road. SAPS officers who responded, indicated that the driver appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. The 35-year-old was arrested and detained at Sea Point SAPS.
‘We can safely say that this has been a very quiet festive season, based on the statistics. However, based on the incidents reported by our staff, there were those who continued to flout the regulations, which comes as no surprise.
‘We are however grateful to the many people who have prioritised their health and safety ahead of a good time. Our enforcement staff will continue doing their compliance visits to establishments and public facilities in the week ahead. We encourage the public to please abide by the regulations and the instructions of enforcement staff to prevent being fined, or worse, arrested,’ added Alderman Smith.
