The City is currently attending to the various operational components that will ensure that the reservoir is functional once again and able to supply water to the Welcome Glen area in the event that the water supply from Da Gama Park should experience any pipe bursts.

Once the valves are installed, the reservoir will be feeding into the water supply network and a range of tests will take place over the next few days to tweak the network to enable the supply of water from the reservoir to the entire Welcome Glen. This will also involve the joint supply from the reservoir and the normal water supply line.

‘Residents are kindly requested to exercise patience during these tests as the solutions will benefit them as the reservoir will be able to sustain the water supply for between one and two days in the event of a pipe burst on the Da Gama Park water main. The City has taken heed of the vulnerability of the Welcome Glen community during these water supply disruption events, which necessitated the recommissioning of the reservoir to alleviate the situation,’ said Councillor Zahid Badroodien, the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Water and Sanitation.

Residents are also requested to store water upfront in clean sealed containers for domestic use during this period and to keep their taps closed to prevent water loss and/or damage when the water supply is restored.

The City regrets the inconvenience caused, and appreciates residents’ cooperation as it is imperative that it maintains its water supply infrastructure to the benefit of its consumers.
