City’s public gyms helping residents to lead healthier lifestyles

The City provides these amenities to encourage residents to adopt a healthier lifestyle. The indoor and outdoor gym equipment serves a two-fold purpose: it gives family members of all ages the opportunity to spend quality time together while at the same time leading a healthy lifestyle and keeping fit.
‘Outdoor gym equipment in public parks, sports fields and outside community centres or halls, can potentially help to encourage physical activity. The aim is to get residents interested in physical activity close to their homes. We encourage residents to make use of these amenities and to reap the benefits that actually lead to a healthier lifestyle,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Management, Alderman Grant Twigg.
‘Indoor and outdoor gyms provide the opportunity for Capetonians to live healthier lifestyles with the goal of improving and promoting overall fitness levels and physical health. The gym equipment has been designed with maximum safety in mind provided it is used correctly and responsibly. They are also suitable for adults of all ages and fitness levels. It is also heartening to see so many of our senior residents taking responsibility for their health and making use of the equipment,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health, Councillor Zahid Badroodien.
Members of the public can report any faults, vandalism or broken gym equipment to the City's Call Centre by dialling 0860 103 089, or by logging an online service request on www.capetown.gov.za, or by email to RP.Enquiries@capetown.gov.za
‘It is extremely rewarding to see how such projects benefit our communities. It is important that residents make maximum use of the equipment and take care of and responsibility for this equipment in partnership with the City, as increased community use decreases acts of vandalism,’ said Alderman Twigg.
