City road rehabilitation projects kick off in various residential areas this week

22 September 2020

The City of Cape Town Road Infrastructure and Management department is commencing with road resurfacing projects in various areas across the city this week.

The City of Cape Town is starting with the resurfacing of various roads in Langa, Kensington, Maitland, Thornton and Kloof Nek this week. The City is spending close to R6 million on the rehabilitation of these roads.

‘It is important that we continuously maintain and improve key roads in our various suburbs. A good quality road network is essential for any growing city and one of our most important assets. Prolonging the longevity of our roads is a priority for us and this can only be achieved through regular maintenance. If all goes according to plan and the weather allows the planned works will be complete in three weeks’ time. I would like to thanks residents in advance for their cooperation and patience while the work is underway,’ said Alderman Purchase.

This maintenance work will take place between 08:00 and 17:00 from Monday to Saturday.

Traffic in both directions on these specific roads will be affected. Flag personnel will therefore regulate traffic in one direction at a time through a stop-and-go system.

The City has ensured that work areas are demarcated to regulate traffic flow and vehicles may be parked in driveways as usual, if and when access is available. If, however, vehicles are parked in the road and obstruct the maintenance work, it will be moved or towed away.

The following roads and streets in Cape Town are affected.

Langa:

• Albert Luthuli Road
• Makana Square
• Mbiyozo Avenue
• Ngayi Street
• Temba Nqose Street
• Tony Yengeni Street
