City requests residents on the Voëlvlei pipeline to reduce water usage

16 May 2022

The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate will be shutting down the 1 525 mm diameter Voëlvlei bulk water pipeline from 18:00 on Thursday 18 May until 18:00 on Friday, 19 May 2022.
The Drakenstein Municipality as well as private consumers along the Voëlvlei pipeline have been informed that water supply to Hermon and Wellington will be affected.

‘The Water and Sanitation Directorate regrets the pipeline shutdown which is directly affecting Hermon, Wellington and private users supplied by the Voëlvlei pipeline. The areas of Durbanville, Fisantekraal, Klipheuwel and Philadelphia inside the City’s boundaries are indirectly affected as they are supplied via reservoirs that have sufficient storage capacity to last throughout the shutdown period. This work, however, forms part of the City of Cape Town’s Bulk Water Infrastructure Upgrade project which will see a reduction in water supply disruptions in the areas supplied by the Melkbosstrand pipeline when the Contermanskloof Reservoir comes online.’ said Councillor Zahid Badroodien, the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Water and Sanitation.

The City will be making adjustments in the network to ensure consumers’ supply is not disrupted.

Consumers in Durbanville, Fisantekraal, Klipheuwel and Philadelphia are requested to reduce their water consumption during this period to maintain the available water supply in the pipe network  and reservoirs.
