The Urban Mobility Directorate has started refreshing road markings across approximately 276 km of roads in the Cape Town CBD.
The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate has started refreshing road markings across approximately 276 km of roads in the Cape Town CBD, Green Point, Three Anchor Bay, Sea Point, Signal Hill, District Six, Woodstock, Salt River, Observatory and Pinelands. The Cape Town CBD is the first area to receive attention, with work progressively moving to the other identified areas until 28 February 2027.
‘Clear road markings help everyone navigate our roads safely, whether driving, walking or cycling. This maintenance work is about keeping our roads clearly marked and helping road users get to where they need to be safely. We ask residents and motorists to please be patient, follow temporary traffic signs and instructions and give our teams the space they need to work safely. Together, we can keep Cape Town moving,’ the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
The work includes repainting existing road markings and adding new markings where required, including road lines, stop lines, pedestrian crossings and speed-hump markings. Road studs will also be installed or removed where necessary.
Work is planned from 09:00 to 15:30, Monday to Saturday, and from 19:00 to 04:30, Monday to Thursday.
Temporary lane closures will be implemented at various locations, generally lasting about 30 minutes at a time. Work will take place on either the inbound or outbound lanes at a time to minimise disruption.
The programme is weather dependent and may be adjusted where necessary.
