City plans long-term solution for Settlers Footbridge in Boston
13 March 2025
The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate will commence with temporary repair work to the Settlers Footbridge in Boston.‘The City understands the importance of this bridge and how it also makes life easier for learners from both the primary and secondary schools in the area. Unfortunately, the bridge was vandalised and large sections of the railings were stolen. This compromised the bridge’s structural integrity and for safety reasons, we could not keep the bridge open. It is our intention to have a contractor appointed this month for the immediate temporary repair work,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
‘Once the bridge is safe for re-opening, our Roads Infrastructure Management Structures Department will re-evaluate some of the design aspects of the bridge to implement a permanent repair solution that will ensure public safety while maintaining its integrity against future vandalism. I would like to thank the community for their patience and understanding while the bridge remains closed,’ said Councillor Quintas.
