City completes stormwater pipeline rehabilitation in Gugulethu

Urban Mobility has completed essential stormwater pipeline rehabilitation works in Gugulethu.
The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate has completed essential stormwater pipeline rehabilitation works in Gugulethu, helping to improve drainage conditions and extend the lifespan of existing stormwater infrastructure. The works, which commenced in the first week of September 2026, were undertaken along Mzimkulu S Dakuse Road and Maliti Street and involved the rehabilitation of the existing stormwater pipeline using cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) lining technology.
‘Good infrastructure maintenance is about doing the work properly and ensuring that our existing infrastructure continues to serve communities for years to come. The rehabilitation of this stormwater pipeline in Gugulethu will improve the performance and longevity of the network, while limiting the need for more disruptive interventions in future. This is part of our ongoing work to maintain and improve the infrastructure that residents rely on every day, and to keep Cape Town moving,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
The work along Mzimkulu S Dakuse Road and Maliti Street was part of the City’s regular stormwater infrastructure maintenance programme and was aimed at improving the flow of stormwater, reducing the risk of localised flooding and ensuring that the existing drainage infrastructure continues to serve the community effectively.
The City thanks residents, businesses and road users in the area for their cooperation and patience while the rehabilitation work was under way.
