City advises of water supply disruption to a large part of Constantia

17 January 2021

The City of Cape Town’s Water and Sanitation Department is currently attending to a pipe burst on the 300mm diameter water supply main along Alphen Drive, Constantia.

The burst was located just before 08:00 this morning when an investigation was conducted by the First Level Response official. The supply was shut off at the time to allow the pipe to drain to enable the crew to work safely.

This has resulted in a large part of Constantia being without water.

They have however identified that the location of the pipe burst, on the Alphen Trail Green Belt off the roadway, is underneath a large tree which complicates matters as an excavator is required on site so that repairs can be completed.

The water supply is anticipated to be restored by 19:00 tonight.

A water tanker will be stationed at the Alphen Centre to provide water for domestic use.

Residents are kindly requested to ensure that their taps are closed during this period to prevent any water loss and/or damage when the supply is restored.

The City sincerely regrets any inconvenience caused, but it is imperative that it maintains its water supply infrastructure to the benefit of its residents.
