Cape Town dam levels decrease by 0,5%
9 June 2020
Water consumption was at 659 million litres per dayWater consumption was at 659 million litres per day – up by 12 million litres per day from the consumption of the previous week which stood at 647 million litres per day.
‘We are watching weather predictions for some kind of sign that this winter will see the five year drought break and normal rainfall return. Showers have been predicted for this week and it is hoped that this will have a significant effect on the dams. However, residents should note that low rainfall does not mean that another Day Zero is on the horizon. Even if we get similarly sparse rainfall as we did in 2017 (the driest year on record), dams will still end up above 60% full, with significant augmentation capacity scheduled to come online over the next year,’ said Mayoral Committee Member for Water and Waste, Alderman Xanthea Limberg.
